Capstone Project

As a requirement in Duquesne University’s MFA program, I had to complete a capstone project. My capstone project titled The American Crisis: Examining American Students’ Perceptions of the unique prevalence of school shootings in the United States was focused on examining current American students’ perceptions of the prevalence and causes of school shootings in the United States, the influence of media coverage on their desire to attend school and the occurrence of such events, and the psychological impact of these events on their own lives from a journalistic perspective.

This research project aims to shed light on the general perceptions of current American students regarding school shootings, a critical issue that affects their mental well-being and sense of safety. By understanding their views on prevalence, media influence, and personal psychological impact, this research will contribute to a deeper understanding of the social and emotional dynamics surrounding school shootings in America. The findings of this research will provide valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals to better address the needs and concerns of students in the United States. The quantitative and qualitative data collected through the surveys and interviews were integrated into a short documentary to showcase the findings of this research.

Ethically Speaking Podcast

As a graduate assistant for Duquesne University’s Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism and Media, I developed and produced Ethically Speaking, a podcast dedicated to exploring media and journalism ethics through conversations with professional journalists and industry experts. This initiative aligned with the Institute’s mission to promote ethical practices in journalism while providing Duquesne students with hands-on experience in podcast production, regardless of their major. The podcast serves as a platform for students to contribute meaningfully to ethical discourse while building their portfolios.

As the executive producer of Ethically Speaking, I strategically developed every aspect from the title and episode structure to the intro music, custom graphics, and logo design.
